Chad's Info
As a teacher and a player, my focus is finding new ways to combine elements of clown, idiot, dancing, music and physical play with scenic improv. How can we be more physical, emotional, fearless and bold? Commit to the smallest choices and heighten them into absurdity? And, most importantly, how can we harness our relationship with the audience to create something both intimate and explosive. What I love about clown is the philosophy that we must do everything this side of death to make sure we've won the audience. Clowns create a sense of danger and urgency because they are so emotionally invested in success -- and when that falls apart, they are masters at manipulating failure into even greater triumphs.I also very much practice what I preach. My former team Jetzo combined improv with clown, dance and live music and performed over 600 shows, often featuring special guests like Dave Razowsky and Craig Cackowski. In 2018, Jetzo was rated as one of the best festival headliners in a national survey, alongside improv royalty like TJ and Dave, Susan Messing and Improvised Shakespeare. And I'm currently a performer and co-producer of The Murge -- a monthly improvised idiot show that LA Weekly called “the weirdest improv in LA.” I've created the show Chad Live Directs a Workshop, where he live directs a group of strangers into creating a silent, improvised clown show -- with many of the performers having zero clown experience. I also regular collaborate with Dr. Brown, an international clown whose solo shows have won awards at Edinburgh Fringe and the Melbourne Comedy Festival. Chad performs in and co-produces Dr. Brown Builds a Show, where an ensemble improvises under Brown’s direction and creates fully scripted narrative clown shows in four weeks. This group recently devised and starred in an FX series called TWO PINK DOORS, to be released later this year.

"Chad is an incredible teacher. He's a total pro and I highly recommend his classes. It's everything you want out of a workshop - direct feedback, pushed out of your comfort zone, and tons of fun. The lessons not only apply to improv, sketch and stand up, but they would be helpful for anyone looking to take more risk in her/his creative medium." - Matt Ippolito
"Just took my first 2 day intensive with Chad. It was absolutely incredible. He helps you to break through your own fears and to let lose in the stage. His methods are fun and freeing. The best part is at the end of the intensive he took time to give each of us very personal feedback - individually. I can’t wait for another opportunity to learn from him." - Mary Grace Russo
"Chad is the embodiment of physicality in comedy. He is the perfect teacher as he so clearly demonstrates the principals of clown both with his actions and his words. He's patient, kind, funny, wise, and clear" - Amber Kenny
