Steven J. Burnett is a queer improv teaching artist and director based in San Francisco at Leela Improv Theatre Co. Steven is a trained actor, vocalist, writer, and performance artist.He was trained in music theatre under Carveth Osterhaus, and coached in vocal performance by Marilyn Govich, a New York National Opera Association soloist. He has been featured in performances of My One and Only, as Mr. Magix, as well as featured roles in On the Town and Man of La Mancha, and has performed in various original productions in San Francisco as well. He was the lead singer of Blues-Rock band, Blind Aces, in San Antonio, and Jam Experimentalists, Wormwood, in San Francisco. He is currently active in Magic! Steven's Sensational Show (an improv cabaret), Leela's Armando Company, Irrational Fears, and LiGht BrighT (SF's premiere queer troupe).
Steven has crafted and conducted improv workshops including character workshop, Use it All!, as well as Gamezilla (Group Game), Game of the Scene, Group Fun(ny) and Musical Improv. He also currently directs many improv troupes including Luxury Cruise Singles Mixer, YUM!, Major 6th (a musical improv troupe), and SALT/WATER. He teaches in the Levels program of Leela for Levels I (Let's Play!), II (Authentic Relationships), VI (Group Mind), as well as Musical Improv. For Leela, Steven has conducted teamwork training and development workshops for many companies including Lyft, YouTube, and Genentech.
