Walk Like A (Wo)Man
How wonderful it is when we see truthful characters in a scene– male, female, young, old, human (and non)! In this workshop we’ll look at obstacles that may get in the way of that truth. We will examine the difference between character and caricature when playing the opposite gender, and ask; are both useful? What’s the difference? We’ll explore the challenges (and gifts) of ‘single gender’ troupes, and what their audiences might expect. We’ll ask honestly how do we feel about playing ‘an opposite’ onstage? We’ll explore our own stereotypes honestly, and blow off the cobwebs We’ll throw status in the mix and discover more ways to bring truth and life to all characters, regardless of gender and age.
