The Zen of Improv One Day Intensive

n the Zen of Improv Intensive, we cover all the prime exercises in the popular Zen of Improv series in one improvluscious day in which you'll get to immerse yourself in this uniquely natural and self-affirming approach to patient, discovery-based, longform improvisation. In The Zen of Improv Intensive, we'll focus on being more aware of the scene that’s revealing itself onstage and following where the scene wants to go...while letting go of the need to work so damn hard and “make stuff up.” We'll practice improvising one small step at a time by paying attention at the ninja level, seeking joy and effortlessness in our scenework, focusing on emotional relationship rather than words in a scene, and utilizing the “Heat” and “Weight” to discover the relationship already existing between the characters. Plus, we practice discovering on our character's natural emotional point of view as the scene anchor and filter through which we play the moments. This approach is all about improvising with mindfulness, performing from a place of ease and joy, and playing the scene in the here and now - it’s good for the stage and it’s good for the soul! The Zen of Improv approach is developed from what Pam Victor learned over the two years of writing Improvisation at the Speed of Life with TJ Jagodowski and Dave Pasquesi. Please note: The workshop is six hours long with one hour off for lunch. It can be extended to seven hours if you really want to get down and funky. I had to choose a difficulty level, but this workshop is equally suitable for a variety of experience levels. In fact, sometimes those with more experience find it the most challenging. Oooh! 🙂
