Valence Chemistry (for Improvisers)
Character, emotion, and POV all intersect at the same place - playing (acting as) someone other than ourselves. A unified theory of improvisational theater accommodates all these approaches and ideas under the same umbrella. As atoms gain or lose electrons, their behavior and reactions to other atoms changes, in the same way that an improviser adopting new voices or losing ticks interacts in new ways with their partners. We will play with a number of different ways of approaching "valence" in scenes, and how we can act in and to them; as well as what new chemistry exists between us when we allow the reactions to occur.
