An Introduction to Editing
Editing is everywhere in improv: Changing the genre in a short-form scene, moving on the next scene in a structured long-form, using a flashback to show, not tell, a memory, pulling lights at the end of a set. It is the responsibility of the show hosts and the performers on the back-line to know when and where to edit, to know why the edit is needed, and most importantly, to actually do the edit. Students will be introduced to sweep edits and tag outs, with exercises and games focused on the when/where/why to edit, and to perform within a montage long-form setting.
