Listening is the most important & fundamental skill in improv whether you're entirely new to the art form or an experienced comedy veteran. It isn't just hearing the words being spoken; it's hearing the subtext of the character you're interacting with and understanding the intent of your fellow performer. Listening isn't just hearing; it's being aware of the tone & energy of the what exists so far and tapping into that.
